
Getting Your Krones Contiform Lamps Right
If you’ve ever spent a shift messing around with PET blow molding lines, you know the headache. You find a replacement lamp that technically fits the socket, but the heat is all wrong. Either it’s not hot enough to get the job done, or it’s so aggressive it ruins your preforms. We got tired of that gap between the expensive OEM parts and the cheap third-party stuff that just doesn’t work. So, we built our lamps to be true “drop-ins” for Krones Contiform systems and other big blowing machines. No tweaking, no praying it works—just swap it and go.
The trick to the heat
Most Contiform setups live and die by short-wave infrared radiation. You need to hit that PET hard and fast. We focus on a high wattage-to-length ratio. For example, when you’re running a 400V lamp, you’re getting the kind of heat density that softens the plastic perfectly without melting the neck. But here’s the catch: the tungsten filament winding has to be spot on. If it’s off by even a fraction of a millimeter? You get hot spots. And hot spots mean burnt preforms and wasted material. We don’t play around with that.
Glass and connectors
Heat is brutal on materials. To stop the tubes from bowing or warping under all that stress, we use heavy-wall quartz glass. It stays straight, which keeps your heat distribution even. As for the ends, we stick to the basics: R7s or Sk15 connectors. Why? Because they just work. You can wire them up without having to rip apart your reflector housing or modify your machine. Plus, if you’re dealing with weird PET thicknesses, we’ve got coated options that shift the emission spectrum to hit exactly where you need it.
The real-world stuff
Now, a word of warning. High-output lamps—like a 2500W tube—pump out a massive amount of heat. That’s great for production, but it puts a lot of pressure on your power supply. And please, check your cooling fans. If your airflow is clogged with dust or just failing, the lamp will “heat soak” and burn out way too early. It’s a simple fix that saves you a lot of money. We’ve made sure our lamps fit about 95% of the blowing equipment out there. We care more about the mechanical footprint and the electrical load than some fancy brand name on the box.
