
Getting the Heat Right in Your Husky HyPET System
If you’ve spent any time with high-speed PET blowing, you know the struggle. It’s not about how much raw power you can throw at the preform; it’s about where that heat actually goes. There is nothing worse than a bottle with a scorched surface but a cold, stubborn core. That’s exactly why we built our quartz heater tubes. We wanted to fix that uneven thermal gap once and for all. Hitting the core, not just the skin Here’s the thing: to get heat deep into the plastic, you have to play with the light. We tweaked the tungsten filament and used a super-pure quartz envelope to shift the energy. We’re aiming for the specific wavelengths that the PET polymer actually likes to absorb. When you’re running high-cycle speeds, you need heat—and you need it fast. Our tubes ramp up quickly so your oven hits the target temp without wasting time. But there’s a catch. Pushing that much power into a small space puts a lot of stress on your reflectors. If your reflectors are pitted or looking a bit rusty, you’re basically throwing away the extra power these tubes provide. Keep them clean. Built to actually last We use high-purity fused quartz because thermal cycling is brutal. These tubes take a beating, and cheap glass just doesn’t cut it. And don’t worry about the fit. These are drop-in replacements for Husky systems. The dimensions and connectors line up perfectly with your existing racks, so you aren’t spending your afternoon fighting with the hardware. We also ditched the flimsy contacts. Most lamps pop at the seal point during a voltage spike. To stop that, we used heavy-duty electrodes. You can wire them up and trust that the resistance is steady across the whole batch. A few tips from the floor These tubes are great for those thick-walled preforms that usually refuse to heat through. Just keep an eye on your cooling blowers. Since we’ve increased the heat flux, your airflow has to be on point. If the air is restricted, you’ll end up with surface overheating, even if the core is perfect. One last thing: be careful with your hands. A single fingerprint or a smudge of oil on the quartz creates a hot spot. And a hot spot is a fast track to a popped tube. Keep the glass spotless, and they’ll treat you right.
