
Making Bathroom Heaters That Actually Feel Safe
Designing infrared heaters for bathrooms is a bit of a balancing act. You’ve got steam, splashing water, and—most importantly—people. The biggest headache? Trying to pump out enough heat to make a cold morning bearable without creating a blinding glare that hurts your eyes. Especially when you’re bathing a baby, the last thing you want is a light so bright it’s stressful. Dealing with the glare Most basic short-wave lamps throw off a lot of visible light and UV rays. It’s too harsh. To fix this, we use special quartz coatings and filters. Think of it as a screen that blocks the annoying blue light and UV stuff but lets the warmth slide right through. You still feel that cozy heat on your skin, but the light is softer. It’s much easier on the eyes. Keeping the water out We all know water and electricity are a terrible mix. That’s why we wrap everything in an IP65-rated shell. It’s basically a fortress against steam and splashes. We use tempered glass and high-temp silicone gaskets to seal the deal. The glass has to be tough enough to handle constant humidity swings without cracking, but clear enough that the heat can still get out. The trade-off Here’s the thing: when you filter out that harsh light, you lose a tiny bit of efficiency. A raw halogen tube is “hotter,” but it’s also blinding. We decided the eye safety was worth the trade. To make up for that lost energy, we tweaked the filament geometry. It keeps the heat density right where it needs to be so you don’t even notice the difference. One quick tip if you’re installing these in a ceiling grid: check your breakers. These heaters pull a massive amount of power the second they click on. If your wiring is too thin, you’ll be staring at a tripped breaker before the room even feels warm.
